FP1, FP2, FP3

This illustration shows the difference between an FP1 (3 on 6 or bridges directly on implants type prosthetic), FP2, and FP3 (all on 4 or all on x prosthetic). First of all, FP stands for (Fixed Prosthesis) and it is classified into 3 different categories.

An FP1 or (Fixed Prothesis 1) is a unit that replaces only the tooth crown, so this option uses the patients natural gum line. The 3 on 6 you may have heard about or bridges that are placed directly onto implants without using any extra "fake” gum tissue is considered an FP1 prosthetic.

An FP2 or (Fixed Prothesis 2) is a unit that replaces the tooth and a small portion of gum or gingival tissue. These prosthetics can also have teeth that may appear abnormally long in length to make up for the missing bone and/or tissue.

An FP3 or (Fixed Prosthesis 3) is a unit that replaces the tooth, gum or gingiva, and a significant amount of bone. Typically the prosthetic includes a visible pink acrylic area to depict the gum line or gingiva. This procedure or hybrid is also known as an All-on-4 or All-on-X prosthetic/procedure.
